Are you suffering from hypothyroidism and trying hard to lose weight? You may have tried several options but most of them failed to produce any result. It is quite true if you are having low blood level of thyroid hormone. The calories you are taking are not burning up properly. There are two types of thyroid hormone – T3 and T4. T4 is thyroxin and T3 is the active form, triiodothyronine. Both of them act together to break down almost all the nutrients – carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals. When our body suffers from low thyroid state, enough thyroxin is not available to break the molecules and they are piled up in different organs and we gain weight. When you further reduce calorie intake with a view to lose weight, every metabolic reaction goes into a ‘starvation mode’ and you fail to shed those extra pounds. Calorie shifting weight loss works in totally different way.

Does calorie shifting work with hypothyroidism? Well yes, it does. Here you don’t have to cut down the amount of calorie you are taking. Rather you will be advised to increase the food. The trick lies elsewhere. You will be playing a game with your own body mechanism.

First, you have to set a baseline calorie intake. Then you will increase (up-shift) the amount of calorie. Your body will recognize this as an over calorie state and expedite the calorie burning process. Suddenly, you will cut down the calorie level. As your body will not be able to cope with this abrupt change, it will continue calorie burning in that previous supercharged mode. In this way, you lose weight in calorie shifting.

You will be advised to take 4 meals a day with occasional snacks. Hypothyroid patients are already overweight and it is very difficult to exercise for them. Calorie shifting does not advocate exercising at all (although mild exercise is always better for your heart).

One thing you should remember that, in a hypothyroid patient there is always a chance to gain weight if you are not too strict about your weight. You should also remember that calorie shifting is not a magic and you can never become a slim personality. But calorie shifting can make your body healthier and much slimmer than you were used to be.
